Today we’re going to branch out from our usual fitness & mindset topics to give some love to some local businesses! These are all places that we’ve personally used their services (so we know they know what they’re doing!) AND are aligned with Ripple Effect in terms of values — community, antiracism, body positivity, etc. — and are trans & queer friendly. We’re going to do a separate post about local restaurants soon, so stay tuned for that one!
Vibe Realty — Vibe is an absolutely awesome group of St. Paul realtors, many of whom have trained at RECF or have significant others who are members here. They’re fun to work with, trustworthy, and really good at what they do! They have a stunning office on Selby Ave. Longtime RECF member Dan is the person you should talk to if you’re looking to buy or sell a home, he’s the BEST! [email protected]

GoPhysio — GoPhysio is our neighbor just down the hall! Owner Paulie Glatt specializes in bike fittings and physical therapy. I didn’t really understand the point of a bike fitting until I talked to him about it. As it turns out there’s a lot more to it than just moving the seat up and down. Since then I’ve gotten fitted on three different bikes there, and it’s made all the difference in the world! Adjusting the parts of the bike to fit your body is key to be able to ride without pain. For a long time I just thought biking didn’t agree with my body, but I just didn’t have things set up properly for my anatomy. I used to get excruciating saddle pain after 15-20 minutes, but last summer is was able to complete multiple rides over 50 miles with no issues. Highly recommend this service! Plus Paulie is just a great dude.
Threshold Healing — Threshold offers a variety of trauma informed massage and bodywork treatments, which can be a game changer if you’ve got some cranky muscles that need help. Their philosophy around body positivity and creating a shame/judgement free space is closely aligned with our goals at RECF. Give these folks a look next time you need a massage!
Black Garnet Books — Black Garnet started online in 2020 in direct response to state violence, as well as the purposeful and unconscious exclusion of Black people from the literature community. The brick-and-mortar store opened its doors in 2022 to address racial inequality within the publishing and literary industries, both nationally and within the state of Minnesota. It’s located right here in Hamline Midway on University Ave! They’re more than just a book store — they also host events in store and online to help folks learn, grow, and resist the oppression of marginalized people. Check it out next time you’re looking for a good read.
